I recently received an e-arc from Beyond the Lights. Thank you to Nicole Higginbotham-Hogue for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review!
What is the book about?
This book is about two best friends: Sawyer Johnson and Autumn Thompson. Both women have been living in the same small town since they were kids. Autumn is perfectly fine with this life, but Sawyer wants to discover more. She decides to go on a trip to meet her celebrity crush: Amy Mitchell. Because Autumn doesn’t want to lose her best friend, she decides to go with Sawyer on her adventure. On this adventure, both characters discover facts about themselves they hadn’t noticed before. This book is about love, friendship, finding yourself and so much more!
What did I think of the book?
Starting off, this was a fairly short book. I think I would have loved for it to be a little longer, however I still think the story was complete. However, I do have mixed feelings about this book. I loved reading it, it was a quick read, the story was fast paced. But I also had some slight issues with it.
This story evolves around friendship, love and finding yourself. I loved that aspect of it. I think that Dawn and Autumn were very likeable characters. Their friendship was described very well.
However, I thought that Amy and Sawyer were both unlikeable characters. In my opinion, they came across quite egocentric and selfish, which I didn’t really like in the story.
I’m also stuck between liking and disliking the fact that everything that the characters dream of in this story just suddenly happens to them, as if it is all ‘meant to be’. However, this gives a ‘dreamy vibe’ to it.
I did like the character development from the main characters. Even though it’s a short book, you can still see both Sawyer and Autumn developing throughout the story.
This is a great book if you want to dream away with a story, because that is really what this story does.
I gave this book 3 out of 5 stars.
