Review: November 9 – Colleen Hoover

For this review, let me take you back to my Down the TBR hole #2 post. In that post I wrote this particular paragraph:

“After reading the description of this book, I decided to temporaily remove this one from my TBR list. It doesn’t really speak to me.”

So as you can read, I removed this book from my TBR list in april. However, I organized (and participated in) a buddy book exchange with bookswithonno. In this book exchange I received a copy of November 9 from lindsay.leest. I’m so glad that Lindsay got me this book, because boy, I was wrong when I deleted this book from my TBR list.

What is the book about?

Fallon meets Ben, an aspiring novelist, the day before her scheduled cross-country move. Their untimely attraction leads them to spend Fallon’s last day in L.A. together, and her eventful life becomes the creative inspiration Ben has always sought for his novel. Over time and amidst the various relationships and tribulations of their own separate lives, they continue to meet on the same date every year. Until one day Fallon becomes unsure if Ben has been telling her the truth or fabricating a perfect reality for the sake of the ultimate plot twist.

Can Ben’s relationship with Fallon—and simultaneously his novel—be considered a love story if it ends in heartbreak?

What did I think of it?

Reading the first November 9th, I immediately got absorbed into the story. You get to know more about Fallon’s life and what she has been through, which was really interesting. The plot of this story is different from other romance books I read, it was refreshing.

Getting to the third November 9th, my heart broke in several pieces. My heart broke because of how that day started and how that day ended. So in general, I cried nearly all throughout this chapter.

“When you find love, you take it. You grab it with both hands and you do everything in your power not to let it go. You can’t just walk away from it and expect it to linger until you’re ready for it.”

In between the fourth November 9th and the fifth November 9th I had some issues with the events happening. I know that these two dates are a year apart from each other, but this felt less realistic for me. However, this didn’t stop me from loving the story.

On the fifth November 9th the big plot twist in the book surfaced. Honestly, I know that I didn’t need this plot twist to keep enjoying this book, but it was a really interesting (and heartbreaking) one. It made a lot of the events happening in the book clear.

The part of the book I loved the most was the sixth November 9th. The things happening in this part of the story all felt so honest and pure and there’s so much more clarity to everything that’s happened.

“You saved me the day we met, Fallon. I know I was only eighteen, but my life would have turned out so different had we not spent that time together.”

I have never done this before, but I heard this Ed Sheeran song after reading the book and I thought it kind of fit with the book.

Overall I really loved this book and I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. I think this could be part of my top 3 books of 2020.
